Wildflower Meadows We are fortunate indeed to live in a place where wildflowers are plentiful. But we can encourage even greater abundance and diversity if we want to. During the spring and summer of 2023 & 24 RE-Betchworth is encouraging the residents of Betchworth to cultivate a wildflower mini meadow for pollinating insects, in their garden or patio. In this way we will be contributing directly to the UK-wide network of B-Lines {bioversity - lines) - 3km wide corridors rich in wildflower habitats to encourage the growth in populations of pollinating insects, Visit our B-Line webpage to find out more Our aim is to 1 Discover existing mini wildflower meadows, together with flowering shrubs and fruit trees 2 Find residents willing to cultivate a new mini wildflower meadow to help pollinating insects 3 Help residents cultivate their mini wildflower meadows in the spring and photograph the effects 4 Share our community story of how we created a patchwork of mini wildflower meadows to help pollinating insects and improve the biodiversity of our parish Insect Polinator Surveys Once our mini wildflower meadows have flowered we will undertake surveys to record the insect pollinators who use them. Invitation If you live in Betchworth and you are willing to cultivate a mini wildflower meadow – we will provide seeds, guidance and practical help if necessary – please get in touch with [email protected] |
Between June and August 2023 we are offering Betchwprth residents the opportunity to share their photos of wildflowers and insect pollinators in an on-line exhibition. Please post your photos in the Whats App forum or email to Norman Jackson [email protected]
