In August 2023 we gained recognition for our nature based work from Surrey Wildlife Trust through their Emerging Talent Community Champions Award
Living the Change is a feature-length documentary that explores solutions to the global crises we face today – solutions any one of us can be part of – through the inspiring stories of people pioneering change in their own lives and in their communities in order to live in a sustainable and regenerative way. Directors Jordan Osmond and Antoinette Wilson have brought together stories from their travels, along with interviews with experts able to explain how we come to be where we are today. From forest gardens to composting toilets, community supported agriculture to timebanking, Living the Change offers ways we can rethink our approach to how we live.
Biodiversity Biodiversity is the biological variety and variability of life on Earth. It is a measure of variation at the genetic, species, and ecosystem level. Biodiversity is not evenly distributed, rather it varies greatly across the globe as well as within regions. The diversity of all living things (biota) depends on many factors including temperature, precipitation and the presence of water, altitude, soils, geography and the presence of other species. One of the most significant factors is the behaviour of humans who continually modify, disrupt or destroy natural environments. “Biodiversity 2020: A strategy for England's wildlife and ecosystem services”, is an ambitious strategy is to 'halt overall biodiversity loss, support healthy well-functioning ecosystems and establish coherent ecological networks, with more and better places for nature for the benefit of wildlife and people.' The Surrey Nature Partnership has produced a 'Biodiversity Planning in Surrey' document which offers advice to those involved in planning to ensure that development within the county protects and enhances the biodiversity which underpins our Natural Capital. We all need to take responsibility for our environment and the impacts we have on it. This website documents our attempt to understand, encourage and support biodiversity in and around the village of Betchworth. It is maintained by re-Betchworth volunteer Norman Jackson.
